The Palestinian sweet lime (Citrus limettioides) is a special type of lime fruit. It is also known as Indian sweet lime or simply sweet lime. Unlike many other limes, it has a very low amount of acid, which makes it taste sweet.
Sometimes, people think of it as a specific kind of lemon called Citrus × limon 'Indian Lime'. This fruit is grown in places like Palestine and India. People use it for food, to make juice, and as a rootstock for other citrus trees.
What Makes It Special?
The Palestinian sweet lime is part of a group of fruits called "sweet limes." It was created by crossing two different citrus fruits. It is a hybrid of a citron (Citrus medica) and another plant that is a mix of a mandarin and a pomelo. This makes it different from regular sweet and sour oranges.
It's important not to confuse it with the limetta, which is also sometimes called sweet lime. The limetta is a different hybrid, made from a citron and a sour orange.
