Palouse Ridge Golf Club is an awesome 18-hole golf course. It's located in the northwest United States. You can find it at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. The course opened in 2008. It's the home course for the Cougar golf teams. These teams play in the Pac-12 Conference.

Discover Palouse Ridge Golf Club

Palouse Ridge Golf Club is a special place for golf. It was designed by a famous golf course architect named John Harbottle III. The course is about 2,600 feet (790 m) above sea level. This means it's pretty high up! The longest tees, called Crimson, stretch for 7,308 yards (6,682 m).

From Old to New: A Golf Course Upgrade

Before Palouse Ridge, there was an older, smaller golf course. It was called the "WSU Golf Course" and had only nine holes. It opened way back in 1925. This old course was mostly for fun. It wasn't a championship course.

In 2006, the old course closed down. It was completely changed to make way for Palouse Ridge. This big project cost about $12.3 million. The new 18-hole Palouse Ridge course opened on August 29, 2008.

More Than Just a Golf Course

Palouse Ridge Golf Club serves many purposes. It helps the university's golf teams get better. It's also like a living classroom for students. They can learn about taking care of grass on a golf course. Plus, it gives fans and former students another reason to visit the campus.

The course has hosted some big golf events. It held the NCAA Pac-12 women's championship in 2012. It also hosted the NCAA men's regional tournament in 2013. In 2015, it was home to the Pac-12 men's championship.

Golf in the Area

Palouse Ridge is a great addition to the golf scene. Another well-known course is the University of Idaho Golf Course. It's about eight miles (13 km) east in Moscow. That course opened in 1937.

Years ago, in the early 1990s, the city of Pullman tried to build another 18-hole course. It was planned near the high school. But people in the area didn't agree with the idea. So, when it was put to a vote in 1994, the plan didn't pass.

Scorecard Basics

A golf scorecard helps you keep track of your game. It shows the length of each hole and its "par." Par is the number of strokes a good golfer is expected to take on a hole. Palouse Ridge is a par 72 course. This means a good golfer should take 72 strokes to finish all 18 holes.
