Pamela M. Kilmartin facts for kids

Pamela M. Kilmartin is a famous astronomer from New Zealand. She is known for finding many asteroids and comets in space. She often works with her husband, Alan C. Gilmore, who is also an astronomer. Together, they have discovered 41 asteroids!

Pamela is a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ). She also helps lead their "Comets and Minor Planets" group. She is one of the people who helps decide the names of new asteroids. This is done by a special group called the International Astronomical Union's working group on Small Bodies Nomenclature.

An asteroid called 3907 Kilmartin was named in her honor. It was discovered by Max Wolf in 1904. Another asteroid, 2537 Gilmore, was named after both Pamela and Alan Gilmore in 1983.

In May 2019, New Zealand Post honored Pamela and her husband. They put them on a special stamp series called New Zealand Space Pioneers.
