Panagiotis Vasilopoulos, also known as Panos Vasilopoulos, is a Greek former professional basketball player. He was born on February 8, 1984. He played as a small forward or power forward. After his playing career, he became an assistant coach for the Peristeri basketball team.

Early Life and Basketball Beginnings
Panagiotis Vasilopoulos was born in Maroussi, Athens, Greece. He grew up in Ano Samiko, a town in Elis. He started playing basketball with youth teams. First, he played for Ifitos Pyrgou, and later for Iraklis Pyrgou.
Professional Basketball Career
Panagiotis Vasilopoulos had a long and successful career playing basketball. He played for several teams in Greece and even one in Spain.
Playing for PAOK
Vasilopoulos began his professional career in 2001. He joined PAOK, a team in the top Greek basketball league. He played with PAOK for four seasons, from 2001 to 2005.
Time with Olympiacos
In 2005, Vasilopoulos moved to Olympiacos Piraeus. He signed a two-year contract with them. He later extended his contract for another four years. With Olympiacos, he achieved big wins. He helped the team win the EuroLeague championship in 2012. They also won the Greek League championship in the same year.
Facing Injuries
On February 8, 2012, Vasilopoulos got a serious leg injury. This happened shortly after he had recovered from back surgery. Because of this injury, he left Olympiacos. In September 2013, he signed with Valladolid, a team in Spain. However, he faced another challenge. He suffered a knee injury and left Valladolid in December 2013.
His Comeback to the Game
After leaving Valladolid, Vasilopoulos continued his journey. In April 2014, he joined Ermis Piraeus, a Greek amateur club. He then returned to professional basketball. He played in the top Greek league again with Nea Kifissia. For the 2015–16 season, Vasilopoulos played for Koroivos.
He then moved to Kolossos Rodou for the 2016–17 season. On July 26, 2017, Vasilopoulos signed with Aris Thessaloniki. He played with them in the FIBA Champions League during the 2017–18 season.
Winning with AEK Athens
On January 19, 2018, Vasilopoulos joined AEK Athens. He played with them for the rest of that season. With AEK, he won two important titles. They won the Greek Cup in 2018. They also won the FIBA Champions League championship.
Playing and Coaching for Peristeri
On July 27, 2018, Vasilopoulos signed a two-year contract with Peristeri. He became the team captain there. He played for three seasons with Peristeri. On August 20, 2021, he officially retired from playing professional basketball.
After retiring as a player, Vasilopoulos started a new role. In December 2021, he became an assistant coach for Peristeri. He continued in this role until June 24, 2023.
Playing for the National Team
Panagiotis Vasilopoulos also represented Greece in international basketball.
Junior National Teams
He played for Greece's junior national teams. He won a bronze medal at the 2002 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship. He also won a bronze medal at the 2003 FIBA Under-19 World Cup. He played in the 2004 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and the 2005 FIBA Under-21 World Cup.
Senior National Team
Vasilopoulos was a member of the senior Greek national basketball team. He won a gold medal at the EuroBasket 2005. He also won a silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. He played for Greece in the EuroBasket 2007 and the 2008 Summer Olympics. He also participated in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Player Skills
Early in his career, people compared Vasilopoulos to another famous player, Georgios Sigalas. Vasilopoulos could play both small forward and power forward. He was good at both offense and defense. He could score close to the basket and pass the ball well. He also had a good jump shot from long range. When he was at his best, he was known as a great athlete. He was also considered one of the best defensive players in Europe.
