A Sweet History
How Panda Started
Panda Oy was started by SOK in 1920. At first, it was simply called SOK's confectionery factory. In 1929, the factory moved to a new building. This building was an extension next to a margarine factory.
In its early years, Panda only made hard candies and marmalade. But soon, they started making other treats. Chocolate production began in the new factory building. Then, in the 1930s, they started making licorice too.
Challenges and Growth
During the war years, it was hard to make many different sweets. By the end of 1942, only carrot marmalade was available. Even with shortages, people still bought it quickly!
After the war, making sweets was still difficult due to rules. But in the 1950s, things got easier. The candy industry began to grow very fast. Panda Oy continued to make popular sweets for everyone to enjoy.
