Pantoja Park is a special public park in the Marina District of Downtown San Diego, California. It was created in 1850, making it the oldest park in the entire city of San Diego! The park is named after Don Juan Pantoja y Arriola, a Spanish explorer. He was the first person to draw a map of San Diego Bay way back in 1782.
Inside the park, you'll find a statue of Benito Juárez, a very important former president of Mexico. The Mexican government gave this statue to San Diego in 1981 as a gift. Pantoja Park is like a little green oasis in the busy Downtown San Diego area.

This happened two years after San Diego created its Historical Resources Board. Being a historic landmark means the park is protected for future generations to enjoy.
