History of Papamoa Plaza
Papamoa Plaza first opened in 1997. Back then, it was known as Palm Beach Plaza. Over the years, it has grown and changed to become the shopping spot it is today.
In 2002, a small fire happened in one of the restaurants. It caused some damage to a few stores. After this, the mall added new automatic alarms. These alarms helped to quickly deal with another small fire in 2006. This shows how the plaza improved its safety over time.
A new building for the Papamoa Library and Community Centre opened right next to the Plaza in 2006. This made the area even more useful for local people. Later, the name of the shopping center officially changed from Palm Beach Plaza to Papamoa Plaza.
Around 2016, the plaza started a big upgrade project. This project cost about $20 million. The goal was to make the plaza much bigger. They planned to have 50 to 60 stores by the end of 2018. This expansion brought many new shops and services to the community.
