Paprika really wanted to be an actress. She tried to get into the Acting School of Odense Theatre 13 times before she was finally accepted! She studied there from 1988 to 1992. After school, she performed in plays and worked with the Royal Danish Theatre. In 1997, she wrote and acted in a funny TV show called Lex og Klatten.

Her Work in Dogme 95 Films

In 1998, Paprika Steen became a big part of the Dogme 95 film movement. This was a special way of making movies where directors followed strict rules to make films feel more real. Paprika was the only actor to be in the first three Dogme 95 movies: The Idiots by Lars Von Trier, Festen by Thomas Vinterberg, and Mifune's Last Song by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen.

Paprika Steen won her first Bodil Award in 2000 for Best Supporting Actress in the movie The One and Only. In 2002, she had a huge year! In the same year, she also won both the Bodil and Robert awards for Best Supporting Actress in Open Hearts.
