Story of the Fishy Adventure
Fly is a daring teenager who lives with his younger sister, Stella, and their parents. One night, their Aunt Anna and her smart but careful son, Chuck, babysit them. While Aunt Anna is asleep, Fly, Stella, and Chuck sneak out to go fishing.
They find themselves at the boathouse of Professor MacKrill. He is a quirky scientist who studies sea life. The professor has invented a special potion that can turn humans into fish. He also has an antidote to change them back.
Stella accidentally drinks the potion, thinking it is lemonade, and turns into a starfish. Fly, not knowing, throws her into the sea. Chuck realizes the mistake when he sees it on a video. The three children decide they must find Stella.
Their boat sinks in a storm. Fly and Chuck drink the potion to survive underwater. Fly becomes a California flyingfish, and Chuck turns into a jellyfish. Meanwhile, their parents and Aunt Anna find out what happened. Professor MacKrill shows them the video of Stella's transformation.
Underwater Challenges
Underwater, the antidote potion leaks and is eaten by a great white shark and a pilot fish named Joe. They become very smart and start to look like humans. Joe quickly uses the antidote to create a city of intelligent fish. He plans to start a revolution. The Shark becomes his not-so-smart helper.
Fly, Chuck, and Stella find each other. Stella has also made a friend, a seahorse named Sasha. The children learn they have only 48 hours to find the antidote. If they don't, they will stay fish forever!
They swim to Joe's underwater city, which is inside a sunken oil tanker. Fly tries to steal the antidote, but they are caught. Joe questions them and demands they make more antidote. He threatens to have the Shark eat them if they refuse. The children are put in prison, guarded by a tough crab. Sasha helps them escape.
The Race Against Time
The children decide to try and make the antidote themselves. They gather ingredients from all over the ocean. Just as they finish, Joe and his fish army appear. Joe drinks the last of the original antidote, and his fins turn into hands.
The children try to run away, but Fly gets hurt by the Crab. The Crab drinks the new antidote and declares himself the King Crab. At the same time, Professor MacKrill and Fly's dad, Bill, are above them in a makeshift boat. Their boat's water pump creates a huge underwater current. This current sucks up Joe's entire army. The Shark eats the King Crab but then gets stuck in the pump.
Chuck remembers that Professor MacKrill has another antidote in his lab. Chuck plans to carry Fly and Stella through dangerous pipes back to the lab. Stella has to say goodbye to Sasha. The children flood MacKrill's lab to reach the potion. Joe follows them and steals it.
Fly chases Joe into a pipe. Fly tricks Joe into drinking the potion many times by challenging his intelligence. Joe changes into a strange human-like form and cannot breathe underwater, so he drowns.
Fly brings the antidote back to the lab. Chuck opens it just as Fly's mom, Lisa, and Aunt Anna open the door to the flooded lab. Chuck and Stella turn back into humans and reunite with their family and Professor MacKrill. After a moment of worry, Fly also emerges from a pipe, human again, with a broken leg.
Later, the family and Professor MacKrill are playing on the beach. Sasha the seahorse appears. Chuck and MacKrill use their science to turn Sasha into a real horse! Stella happily rides her new horse friend.
