This character is the main hero in the Hitman video game series, made by IO Interactive. David Bateson has voiced Agent 47 in all eight main games since the year 2000.

Early Life and Moving Around

David Bateson was born in Durban, South Africa. His parents were English. He has shared that his family moved between South Africa and England many times, about 13 times in total! Because of this, he went to nine different schools. He said this made him a bit unsure about his identity for a while.

David Bateson's Acting Career

David Bateson started his acting career in 1994. His first role was playing Hother in a movie called Prince of Jutland. He also appeared as a young sailor in the 1996 film Breaking the Waves. Later, in 2002, he had the main role in a short film called Debutanten.

Voicing Agent 47 in Hitman

David Bateson's most well-known role is voicing Agent 47. This character is the main star of the Hitman video game series. He has provided both the voice and the motion capture for Agent 47 in every game since 2000. Motion capture means his movements were recorded and used for the character.

Many fans thought Agent 47's look was based on David Bateson. However, he has said this is not true and just a coincidence. For the game Hitman: Absolution, another actor, William Mapother, was first chosen to voice Agent 47. Fans were upset about this change. David Bateson later shared that he had been "unceremoniously dropped" from the series. But he was rehired to voice Agent 47 before the game was released. William Mapother's motion capture work for the character remained in the game. Even with this challenge, David Bateson has said that Absolution is his favorite Hitman game.

Other Voice Acting Roles

Besides Hitman, David Bateson has done other voice work. In 2020, he voiced a character named Virgil in an indie game called Lightmatter. This was his first video game voice role outside of the Hitman series. In 2023, he voiced Bowser in the Danish version of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He was the Danish voice for the character originally played by Jack Black. David Bateson has also worked a lot in Danish TV shows. He has narrated many commercials for Lego toys too.
