This parrotbill is mostly brown all over its body. It has a large black area on its upper chest. The rest of its underside is a warm, reddish-brown color. A similar bird, the spot-breasted parrotbill, looks a bit different. It has arrow-shaped spots on its chest and lighter brown underparts.

The black-breasted parrotbill makes some interesting sounds. Its calls can be a rough howh, jeehw, or jahw. When it sings, it makes a rhythmic series of sounds. These can be like aw jahw jahw jahw or uhwi uhwi uhwi uhwi. Sometimes, it sings a higher-pitched song. This might sound like wi chi'chi'chi'chi'chi or wi yi'yi'yi'yi'yi. It can also sing wi'uwi-uwi-uwi wi chu-chu-chu.
Where Does This Bird Live?
The black-breasted parrotbill is a bird that lives only in certain areas. It is found in the Indian subcontinent. Today, it is mostly known from India. You can find it in the plains and foothills of the Brahmaputra valley. This area includes Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
In the past, this bird was also seen in Bangladesh. It might have even lived in eastern Nepal. It used to be quite common in many places. However, now there are only a few places where it has been seen recently. These places are in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. They include Manas National Park and Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
