The Brahmaputra is a very important river in Asia. It's also known as Tsangpo in Tibet. This mighty river starts high up in the Himalayas mountains in Tibet. It then flows through Tibet, India, and Bangladesh. The Brahmaputra is about 2,900 km (1,800 mi) long. Every spring, when the ice and snow in the mountains melt, the river can cause huge floods.
Where Does the Brahmaputra Start?
The Brahmaputra River begins at the Chemayungdung Glacier. This glacier is found on the slopes of the mighty Himalayas.
The River's Journey to the Sea
As the Brahmaputra flows, it eventually meets another famous river, the Ganges. Together, these two rivers flow into the Bay of Bengal. When they reach the sea, they form a very large delta called the Gangetic delta. This is the biggest delta in India.
