Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Parc de la Creueta del Coll is a beautiful park located in the Gràcia and Horta areas of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Its name means "Park of the Corner of the Hill." This special park was once an old quarry, which is a place where stone or sand is dug out of the ground. It was transformed into a park as part of new city planning projects for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Famous architects named Martorell, Bohigas, and Mackay designed it.

Art and Sculptures in the Park

Parc de la Creueta del Coll is not just a green space; it's also home to some amazing art. These sculptures make the park a unique place to visit and explore.

The Claw Sculpture: Elogi de l'Aigua

One of the most striking artworks in the park is a sculpture called Elogi de l'Aigua. This translates to "Praise of Water." It was created by a famous Basque artist named Eduardo Chillida. The sculpture looks like a giant concrete claw. It hangs high above a part of the park that used to be the flooded quarry. Strong steel cables hold this massive artwork in place. It's a really impressive sight!

The Totem Sculpture: Escultura

Near the entrance gate of the park, you will find another interesting sculpture. This one is made of steel and is called Escultura, which means "Sculpture." It is also known as "Totem." This artwork was created by the artist Ellsworth Kelly. Its simple, tall shape adds to the modern feel of the park.
