History of Paris, Oregon

Paris, Oregon, has a short but interesting history related to its name.

Early Days and the Post Office

A special building called a post office was opened in Paris in 1909. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office helped connect the small community to the outside world.

The person who helped start the post office was named G. E. Parris. He was the very first postmaster, which is the person in charge of a post office. He decided to name the community "Paris" after his own last name.

The Paris post office stayed open for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1933. Even though the post office is gone, the name "Paris" still marks this quiet spot in Oregon.
