Parrish is a small, unincorporated community located in the state of Wisconsin, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Parrish is found within the larger Town of Parrish in Langlade County. It's situated near Wisconsin Highway 17, about 15 miles (24 km) south of a bigger city called Rhinelander.
A Look Back at Parrish's History
The community of Parrish got its name from an important railroad official. This person likely played a role in the area's development, perhaps by helping to bring the railroad through.
A local post office was opened in Parrish in 1889. This was a big deal because it made it easier for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years.
However, the post office eventually closed down in 1963. This often happens in smaller communities as populations change or mail services become more centralized.
