Parrish Creek is a natural waterway found in Utah. It is an important part of the local environment. The creek helps support plants and animals in the area.
Where Parrish Creek Starts and Ends
Parrish Creek begins high up in the Wasatch Range. It starts from a natural spring about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) southeast of Bountiful Peak. The starting point is very high, at about 8,580 feet (2,615 meters) above sea level.
From there, the creek flows southwest. It eventually reaches the foothills northeast of Centerville. The creek ends in Centerville at an elevation of about 4,600 feet (1,402 meters).
How Parrish Creek Got Its Name
Parrish Creek is named after Samuel Parrish. He was an early pioneer who settled in the area. Mr. Parrish built one of the first mills in Davis County right along the creek.
Interestingly, the creek and the nearby community were first called Duel. This name came from two brothers who were also early settlers. Later, the community's name changed to Cherry Creek, and then to Centerville. The creek's name was changed to Parrish Creek to honor Samuel Parrish.
Exploring the Area: Trails and History
The area around Parrish Creek is great for exploring. There are some interesting trails nearby. One trail roughly follows the stream bed upstream. Along this path, you can find ancient Native American pictographs. These are old drawings or symbols made on rocks. They give us a peek into the past.
Another trail runs south of the creek. This trail follows a ridge that separates Parrish Canyon from Centerville Canyon. It's a popular hiking route to Bountiful Peak. The trail starts near the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. It connects with Skyline Drive at its eastern end. This hike is about 7.84 miles (12.6 km) long. It involves climbing about 4,670 feet (1,423 meters) in elevation. It's a challenging but rewarding journey for hikers.
