Parveen Sultana, known to many as Diti, was a famous actress from Bangladesh. She was born on March 31, 1965, and passed away on March 20, 2016. Diti was well-known for her work in both movies and TV shows. She even won a special award, the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, in 1987 for her role in the movie Swami Stree. Throughout her career, Diti appeared in over 200 films!

Early Life and School Days

Diti was born in a place called Sonargaon, which is in the Narayanganj District of Bangladesh. Her parents were Abul Hossain and Nurjahan Begum. She went to Eden Mohila College for her higher secondary education. Later, she earned her bachelor's degree from Lalmatia Women College.

Her Acting Journey

Diti actually started her career as a singer! She even won an award at a national singing competition organized by the Bangladesh Shishu Academy. While she was singing for Bangladesh Television, a famous actor named Al Mansur noticed her talent. He then cast her in a TV drama called "Laili Majnu," where she acted alongside Manas Bandopadhyay.

Diti officially joined the film industry in 1984. She entered through a special talent search competition called "Notun Mukher Sondhane" (which means "In Search of New Faces"). Her very first movie was Daak Diye Jai, directed by Udayon Chowdhury, but it was never released. Her first movie that audiences actually got to see was Ami-i Ostad. Besides movies, Diti also acted in many TV dramas. She even hosted a TV show where she taught cooking!

Family Life

Diti married actor Sohel Chowdhury in 1986. Interestingly, Sohel Chowdhury also won the "Notun Mukher Sondhane" competition in the same year as Diti. They had a daughter named Lamia Chowdhury, who was born in 1987, and a son named Shafayet Chowdhury Dipto, born in 1989. Diti and Sohel later divorced. Sadly, Sohel Chowdhury passed away in 1998. Diti later married another actor, Ilias Kanchan, but their marriage also ended in divorce.

Health Challenges and Passing

On July 25, 2015, Diti was diagnosed with brain cancer. She received treatment at the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Chennai, India. Sadly, Diti passed away on March 20, 2016, at the United Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
