Paso del Cerro is close to the border of the Rivera Department. It's about 19 kilometers (about 12 miles) west of where two main roads, Route 5 and Route 29, meet. This village is also about 38 kilometers (about 24 miles) northeast of Tacuarembó, which is the capital city of the department.
A railroad track that connects Montevideo, Tacuarembó, and Rivera goes right through the village. Also, a stream called Arroyo Laureles flows about 2.2 kilometers (about 1.4 miles) northeast of Paso del Cerro. This stream is an important branch of the Río Tacuarembó river.
