Patjarr's History
The Pintupi people started returning to their traditional lands near Patjarr in 1979. They wanted to set up a permanent home there.
The community's main group, Patjarr Aboriginal Corporation, was officially formed in 1980. However, it wasn't until 1993 that the land around Patjarr was officially given to the traditional owners. This land was leased to them by the Aboriginal Lands Trust.
In 2005, it was legally decided that the Pintupi people had native title rights to the land. This was part of a big legal case about the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
