Patricio Manuel (born July 22, 1985), also known as "Cacahuate" (which means "peanut" in Spanish), is an American professional boxer. He made history in 2018 by becoming the first openly transgender boxer to compete professionally in the United States.

Boxing Career Highlights

Patricio Manuel started his professional boxing journey on December 8, 2018. His first fight was part of a Golden Boy Promotions event in Indio, California. He won this fight against Hugo Aguilar by a unanimous decision. This means all three judges agreed he won the match.

First Professional Fight

Hugo Aguilar, his opponent, learned about Manuel's gender transition just two days before their fight. Aguilar showed great respect, saying it didn't change anything for him. He understood that both boxers wanted to win in the ring.

Recent Fights and Achievements

In March 2023, Manuel won his second professional fight. He defeated Hien Huynh by a technical decision. This happened because the fight had to stop early due to a cut caused by an accidental head clash.

In June 2023, Manuel participated in another Golden Boy Fight Night. He earned his third professional win against Alexander Gutierrez. This victory was also by unanimous decision.

His most recent fight was in April 2024, again at a Golden Boy Fight Night. Manuel faced Joshua Bryan Reyes. Reyes won the fight by technical knockout (TKO) just 21 seconds into the first round. This was Manuel's first professional loss.

Patricio's Journey and Transition

Before becoming a professional boxer, Patricio Manuel was a very successful amateur boxer. He won five national amateur championships. He even competed in the 2012 Women's U.S. Olympic Trials. He had to leave those trials because of a shoulder injury.

Starting His Transition

In 2013, Manuel began his gender transition. This included starting hormone treatments. In 2014, he had surgery in Salt Lake City to help him live as a man. This was an important step in his personal journey.

Life Outside the Ring

As of 2017, Patricio Manuel lives in California with his partner and their dog, Ginkgo. He likes to keep his personal life private. He continues to train hard under his coach, Victor Valenzuela, in Duarte, California. Manuel is known for his strong spirit and ability to overcome challenges.

Speaking Out for Others

Patricio Manuel is a strong voice for LGBTQ+ rights. He speaks at many events to share his story and support his community. In May 2019, he was a main speaker at the launch of the San Francisco 49ers LGBTQ+ and allies fan club.

Becoming a Role Model

In September 2019, Manuel became the new face of Everlast boxing equipment. He was part of their "Be First" campaign. His story has been shared by major news groups like The Los Angeles Times and ESPN. He was also featured in a Webby Award-winning documentary called "Identify."

Manuel has faced challenges, including some opponents refusing to fight him. Despite this, he continues to promote a more welcoming and fair environment in sports for everyone.
