Patricio Manuel's Boxing Journey
Patricio Manuel started his professional boxing career on December 8, 2018. His first fight was part of a big event by Golden Boy Promotions in Indio, California. He won his first match against Hugo Aguilar by a unanimous decision. This means all three judges agreed that Patricio won the fight.
Hugo Aguilar, his opponent, learned about Patricio's journey only two days before the fight. He said it was "very respectable" and that it didn't change anything for him. He added, "In the ring he wants to win and I want to win too." This showed great sportsmanship from both boxers.
In May 2019, Patricio was invited to speak at an event for the San Francisco 49ers football team. He talked about being an ally for LGBTQ+ people and their supporters. Later that year, in September 2019, Patricio became the new face for Everlast, a very famous brand that makes boxing equipment.
Patricio continued his boxing career. In March 2023, he won his second professional fight against Hien Huynh. The fight ended early because of a cut, but Patricio was ahead on points, so he won by a technical decision. In June 2023, he won again by unanimous decision against Alexander Gutierrez.
His most recent fight was in April 2024, where he competed in another Golden Boy Fight Night. In this match, he was knocked out by his opponent, Joshua Reyes, very early in the first round.
Patricio's Personal Journey
Before becoming a professional boxer, Patricio was a very successful amateur boxer. He won five national amateur championships. He even competed in the 2012 Women's U.S. Olympic Trials. However, he had to stop competing in those trials because of a shoulder injury.
After this, Patricio began his journey to live as a man. He started hormone treatments in 2013. In 2014, he had a surgery called "top surgery" in Salt Lake City. This was an important step in his transition.
