Patrick Bowes-Lyon (born September 22, 1884 – died May 25, 1949) was a British nobleman. He held the title of the 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. He was also the older brother of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, which made him an uncle to Queen Elizabeth II.

Early Life and Family Connections
Patrick Bowes-Lyon was born on September 22, 1884. His birthplace was St Paul's Walden Bury in Hertfordshire, England. His parents were Claude Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck.
He was the older brother of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She later became the Queen Mother. This made Patrick an uncle to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.
Service During Wartime
When World War I began, Patrick Bowes-Lyon joined the army. He served with a famous Scottish regiment called the Black Watch. On June 19, 1920, he was given a special role. He became a deputy lieutenant for an area in Scotland called Forfarshire. This role meant he helped the Lord-Lieutenant, who represents the King or Queen in the county.
Royal Wedding Guest
In 1947, Patrick Bowes-Lyon was an important guest. He attended the wedding of his niece, Princess Elizabeth, to Philip Mountbatten. Princess Elizabeth later became Queen Elizabeth II.
Family Life
Patrick Bowes-Lyon married Lady Dorothy Beatrix Godolphin Osborne. They got married on November 21, 1908, in London. Lady Dorothy was the daughter of the 10th Duke of Leeds.
Their Children
Patrick and Dorothy had four children together:
- John Patrick Bowes-Lyon, Master of Glamis (born January 1, 1910 – died September 19, 1941). He was killed during World War II and was not married.
- Lady Cecilia Bowes-Lyon (born February 28, 1912 – died March 20, 1947). She was a bridesmaid at the wedding of her aunt, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, in 1923. Cecilia married Major Kenneth Douglas Evelyn Herbert Harington in 1939.
- Timothy Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 16th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (born March 18, 1918 – died September 13, 1972). He married Mary Bridget Brennan in 1958. They had one daughter who sadly died as a baby.
- Lady Nancy Moira Bowes-Lyon (born March 18, 1918 – died February 11, 1959). She married Lance Amigo Percy Burra Robinson in 1940. They later divorced. She then married John Michael Matheson Blair in 1954.
Later Years and Passing
Lady Dorothy, the Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, passed away on June 18, 1946. She was 57 years old. Patrick Bowes-Lyon lived for almost three more years after her. He died on May 25, 1949, in Angus, Scotland. He was 64 years old.
