About the Patrick Murphy House
The Patrick Murphy House sits just north of downtown Windsor. You can find it on the west side of Palisado Avenue, which is also known as Connecticut Route 159. This road has always been a main route along the Connecticut River.
What Does It Look Like?
This house is a two-story building made of brick. It has a low, flat roof with wide edges that stick out. There are even a few small windows tucked right under the roof. The house is mostly rectangular, with a part that sticks out a little on the left side.
The front of the house has three main sections. The front door is on the right side and has tall, narrow windows next to it. A porch wraps around the front and extends to the left side. This porch has cool, turned posts and fancy decorations at the top. The windows under the porch are very long, reaching almost to the floor. Other windows have stone sills and tops.
Other Buildings on the Property
Behind the main house, there's a two-story addition with its own porch. There's also an old carriage house on the property. A carriage house was like a garage for horse-drawn carriages back in the day.
Why Is It Important?
The Patrick Murphy House was built around 1873. It's one of several brick houses in Windsor built in the Italianate style. These homes help show what the streets of Windsor looked like in the 1800s. The house is part of the Palisado Avenue Historic District, which is an area with many old and important buildings.
