The Patrick Rodgers Ranch is a special old farm and home in Pleasant Hill, California. It's also called the Patrick Rodgers Farm. This historic place was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This means it's an important site that helps us remember history.

The Story of Rodgers Ranch

The story of Rodgers Ranch began in 1868. Patrick Rodgers and his family moved here from the Sierra Nevada mountains. They started a large farm that was about 149 acres (60 hectares).

Patrick Rodgers passed away in 1891. He left the ranch to his children and family members, known as his heirs. About 16 years later, the big farm was split up. Alice and James Rodgers received a part of the land. This part was about 38 acres (15 hectares). It included the original house and barn, which were built in the 1860s.

In 1915, the ranch was sold to Rollo Hough. He was a partner in the Luther Burbank Company. They wanted to make it a "demonstration farm." This kind of farm shows new ways to grow plants. But because of money problems, this plan never happened.

A few years later, the property became smaller, about 18 acres (7 hectares). It stayed this size for a long time. In 1937, a writer named Alice Hobart bought the ranch.

In 1942, the ranch was sold again to Kaho Daily. She kept it as a working farm until 1978. Later, in 1987, there were plans to build many new homes on the land. But the Pleasant Hill Historical Society stepped in. They wanted to save what was left of the old ranch. Thanks to their efforts, the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This helped protect it for future generations.
