Patterson is a city in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. In 2010, about 6,112 people lived there. It is part of the Morgan City area.

History of Patterson
Early Settlement and Name Changes
In the early 1800s, some people from Pennsylvania came to the Bayou Teche area. One of them, Hans Knight, decided to settle his family in what is now Patterson. This community was first known by names like Dutch Settlement or Dutch Town.
In 1832, a trader named Captain John Patterson from Indiana moved to the area. He built a store and became a very important person in the community. The town was later renamed Pattersonville in his honor. This happened after Captain Patterson successfully moved the local post office to Dutch Settlement.
In 1907, Pattersonville officially became a town and was renamed the Town of Patterson.

Patterson is known for its strong football teams. Even though they have only reached the state championship twice, they are often in the playoffs.
Patterson is also the hometown of famous football players:
- Dalton Hilliard, a running back for LSU and the New Orleans Saints. He is in the Saints' Hall of Fame.
- Ike Hilliard, a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On January 15, 2009, Kenny Hilliard was named ESPN RISE Sophomore Player of the Year.

- Ralph Norman Bauer: He was born in Patterson in 1899. He served as the Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1940 to 1948.
