History of Pattison
Pattison was first called Martin. It was named after a general named William T. Martin. The community was built along the old Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad line.
Long ago, Pattison was a busy place. It had many important businesses. There was a drug store, a grist mill (which ground grain), and a cotton gin (which separated cotton fibers). It also had a saloon, a hotel, and several general stores.
A post office served the community under the name Martin from 1879 to 1912. Then, in 1912, the post office started using the name Pattison.
