Unique Features of the Airfield

The airfield is very unique because of its location. It sits right next to a golf course. Many beach houses line the runway. Some of these houses even have a special garage for planes, called a hangar, on their ground floor. Most houses also have spots in their yard to tie down an aircraft.

The runway itself is made of grass on sand. This type of surface is strong enough for planes to land on. It can even be used when the weather is wet.

Flying into Pauanui

Pauanui is a very popular spot for light aircraft. Many pilots fly here for a fun day trip. They might come to enjoy a swim at the beach. Or they might visit for lunch at one of the local cafes.

The aerodrome does not have clubrooms. It also does not offer fuel for planes. However, the Pauanui Village centre is very close. It's only about a 500-meter walk to the southwest. Here, you can find cafes and other useful facilities.

Beaches Near the Runway

There are two different beaches close by. At the eastern end of the runway, you'll find a surf beach. This is great for those who love waves. At the western end, there's an estuary beach. This beach has much calmer water, perfect for a relaxing swim.
