Early Life and Education

Paul Desruisseaux was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on May 1, 1905. He grew up in Quebec and later decided to study law. He attended the Université de Montréal, a well-known university. After finishing his studies, he became a lawyer in Quebec in 1934. This meant he could practice law and help people with legal matters.

A Career in Business

Besides being a lawyer, Paul Desruisseaux was also a very successful businessman. He owned several media companies in Sherbrooke. He was the owner of La Tribune, which was a daily newspaper. This newspaper kept people informed about local and national news.

He also owned several radio stations, including CHLT and CKTS. On top of that, he owned a television station called CHLT-TV. This shows he had a big impact on how people in Sherbrooke got their news and entertainment.

Serving in the Senate

In 1966, Paul Desruisseaux was asked to join the Senate of Canada. The Senate is a very important part of Canada's Parliament. Senators are appointed to review and approve laws. They represent different regions of Canada.

He was chosen by the Prime Minister at the time, Lester B. Pearson. Paul Desruisseaux was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. This is one of Canada's major political parties. He represented the area of Wellington, Quebec, as a Senator.

During his time in the Senate, he helped with important projects. In 1966, he played a key role in raising $230,000 for a new hospital. This hospital was named after Lily Butters. This shows his dedication to helping his community.
