Paul Winston McCracken (born December 29, 1915 – died August 3, 2012) was an important American economist. He was born in Richland, Iowa. He is best known for helping President Richard Nixon make big decisions about the country's economy.

Paul McCracken's Early Life and Studies

Paul McCracken studied economics at two different universities. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from William Penn University. Later, he went to Harvard University, where he earned both his Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in economics. A PhD is a very high academic degree.

A Professor at the University of Michigan

After his studies, Paul McCracken became a respected professor. He taught business administration, economics, and public policy at the University of Michigan. He was known as the Edmund Ezra Day Distinguished University Professor Emeritus. This means he was a highly honored professor who had retired.

Helping the President with the Economy

One of Paul McCracken's most important jobs was working for the United States government. From 1969 to 1971, he was the chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisors. This council is a group of experts who give advice to the President about the economy.
