Paul Seesequasis facts for kids
Paul Seesequasis is a Canadian writer and journalist. He is a member of the Plains Cree First Nation, an Indigenous group from Saskatchewan, Canada. He started Aboriginal Voices magazine. Paul is well-known for a three-year project where he shared old photos of Indigenous peoples of Canada online.
Sharing Indigenous Photos
Paul's photo project was inspired by his mother. She had attended an Indian residential school and wanted to see more stories about the strength of Indigenous communities. With this idea, Paul started looking through old photos in archives and museums. He chose pictures that showed positive and strong messages about Indigenous community life.
Sometimes, when he posted these photos, people were able to identify the individuals in them. This was important because the names of the people in these old photos were not always recorded.
In January 2017, Paul signed a deal with Penguin Random House to publish these photographs in a book. The book, called Blanket Toss Under Midnight Sun, was released in October 2019. It includes stories and information about the photos, the people in them, and the photographers.

Paul was one of the first editors for Aboriginal Voices, a magazine that won awards. It was started in 1993. He also worked as an editor at Theytus Press, which is the oldest Indigenous publishing house in Canada. Paul also received the Maclean-Hunter journalism award for his writing.
