Paula Hawkins (born August 26, 1972) is a British author. She is best known for her exciting mystery novels. Her most famous book is The Girl on the Train, published in 2015. This book became a huge bestseller around the world. It was even made into a movie in 2016, starring Emily Blunt. Paula Hawkins has written other popular books too, like Into the Water and A Slow Fire Burning.

About Paula Hawkins

Paula Hawkins was born and grew up in Salisbury, Rhodesia. This place is now called Harare, Zimbabwe. Her father was a professor who taught economics and also worked as a financial journalist.

When she was 17, Paula moved to London in 1989. She had attended Arundel School in Harare. In London, she continued her studies at Collingham College. Later, she went to Keble College at the University of Oxford. There, she studied philosophy, politics, and economics.

Early Career as a Journalist

After finishing college, Paula Hawkins started her career as a journalist. She worked for a newspaper called The Times. Her job was to report on business news.

After that, she worked for different publications as a freelance writer. This means she worked for herself and took on projects from various companies. She even wrote a book that gave financial advice to women.

Becoming a Bestselling Author

Paula Hawkins wanted to write a different kind of story. She decided to try writing a more serious and mysterious novel. This challenge led her to write The Girl on the Train.

It took her six months to write this book while working full-time. The novel became incredibly popular very quickly. In 2016, it was made into a successful film. In November 2016, the BBC recognized her as one of their "100 Women."

Her second mystery novel, Into The Water, came out in May 2017. It also became a bestseller in both the Sunday Times and NYT lists. Her novel A Slow Fire Burning was published on August 31, 2021.

Around 2009, before her thrillers, Paula Hawkins also wrote romantic comedy books. She used the pen name Amy Silver for these novels. One of them was called Confessions of a Reluctant Recessionista.
