Pauline Morrow Austin (born in 1916, died in 2011) was a very important American scientist. She was a meteorologist, which means she studied the weather and atmosphere. Pauline Austin helped us understand weather better, especially during World War II.

  • In 1938, she got her first degree, a BA, from Wilson College.

Working with Weather and Radar

Pauline Austin used her science skills to help during World War II. She was one of only nine women recognized for their important scientific and technical work during the war.

After the war, she continued her amazing work at MIT. She became the Director of the weather radar program. This meant she led research using radar to track storms and predict weather. She also worked as a researcher in the Radiation Laboratory. Plus, she helped write for the Journal of Applied Meteorology, a science magazine about weather.

Her Family Life

Pauline Austin was married to Dr. James Murdoch Austin for 59 years. They had two daughters named Doris and Carol.

Later in her life, she volunteered at the Florida Museum of Natural History. This shows she continued to share her love for science and learning.
