Paulo Autuori de Mello, known as Paulo Autuori, is a famous Brazilian football coach and executive. He was born on August 25, 1956. He is currently the manager of the Peruvian football club Sporting Cristal.

Early Life and Football Dreams
Paulo Autuori loved football from a young age and played futsal, which is a type of indoor football. He dreamed of becoming a professional football player. However, he got sick with poliomyelitis when he was a teenager. This illness made one of his legs weak and caused him to limp. Because of this, he could not play football professionally.
Even though he couldn't play, Paulo didn't give up on his dream of being involved in football. He decided to learn about other parts of the game. He chose to become a football manager, which is like the head coach of a team. He studied Physical Education and took courses in Sport Administration and Soccer Coaching to prepare for this new path.
Paulo Autuori's Coaching Journey
Paulo Autuori started his career as a fitness coach for several Brazilian clubs. A fitness coach helps players stay in shape and perform their best. In 1986, he joined the staff of a Portuguese team called Vitória de Guimarães.
First Steps as a Manager
In 1987, Paulo Autuori became a full manager for the first time. He took charge of Nacional in Portugal. He helped them get promoted to a higher league in his first year. After that, he returned to Vitória de Guimarães as their manager.
He then moved to Marítimo, another Portuguese team, where he coached for several years.
Winning Big in Brazil
In 1995, Paulo Autuori came back to Brazil to manage Botafogo. This was a very important time in his career. He led Botafogo to win the Brazilian Championship in 1995, which is a huge achievement.
After his success with Botafogo, he coached Benfica in Portugal for a short time.
Copa Libertadores Victories
Paulo Autuori then joined Cruzeiro in Brazil. In 1997, he guided Cruzeiro to win the Copa Libertadores, which is the biggest club competition in South America. This was a major win for him and the club.

Adventures in Asia and Return to Brazil
After his success with São Paulo, Paulo Autuori coached Kashima Antlers in Japan. He then had another spell with Cruzeiro in Brazil.
He also spent time coaching Al-Rayyan in Qatar, winning the Emir of Qatar Cup twice. He even managed the Qatar U23 team and the Qatar senior team.
Recent Coaching Roles
Paulo Autuori continued to coach many different teams. He managed Vasco da Gama and Atlético Mineiro in Brazil. He also returned to Japan to coach Cerezo Osaka.
In 2016, he led Atlético Paranaense to win the Campeonato Paranaense, a state championship in Brazil. He later took on roles as a director of football, helping clubs with their overall football strategy. He worked as a director for Atlético Paranaense, Fluminense, and Santos.
In 2018, he became the manager of Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria, winning the Bulgarian Supercup. He then coached Atlético Nacional in Colombia, winning the Superliga Colombiana in 2023.
Paulo Autuori has also had several more stints as a coach and technical director for clubs like Botafogo, Athletico Paranaense, Goiás, and Internacional. In late 2023, he briefly served as interim coach for Cruzeiro, helping them avoid relegation.
On April 16, 2025, Paulo Autuori returned to Sporting Cristal in Peru, where he is currently the manager. His long career shows his dedication and passion for football, having coached teams in many different countries and won numerous titles.
