Pavel Bobek (born September 16, 1937 – died November 20, 2013) was a famous Czech singer. He was known for his unique voice and for singing many different styles of music, including country, pop, and rock and roll.

A Singer's Journey

Pavel Bobek started his music career in the 1960s. From 1963 to 1965, he was the lead singer for a very important rock band called Olympic. This band helped start the rock music scene in Czechoslovakia.

After that, from 1967, he joined the Semafor Musical Theatre. This was a popular theater where he performed with another artist named Jiří Brabec.

Singing Famous Songs

Pavel Bobek was great at taking popular songs by other artists and making them his own. He sang rock songs like "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed and "Harder Than Your Husband" by Frank Zappa.

He also loved country music. He sang Czech versions of famous country songs. For example, he covered Kenny Rogers' "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town" and John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads". The Czech words for "Take Me Home Country Roads" were written by Vladimír Poštulka.

Meeting Johnny Cash

A special moment in Pavel Bobek's career happened in 1978. He met the famous American country singer Johnny Cash. They even sang a song together called "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" at the US Embassy! This meeting helped Pavel Bobek become more known outside the Czech Republic.

In 1980, he received a high Czech award called the Zlatá Porta za Zásluhy. This award recognized his great contributions to music.

Later Years and New Music

Because of his connection with Johnny Cash, Pavel Bobek traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States in 2010. Nashville is known as the home of country music. There, he made a CD of Johnny Cash's songs, but he sang them in his own style. He called the album "Víc Nehledám", which means "Looking No More".

Pavel Bobek had a serious illness that affected his voice. But he worked hard to get better. In May 2012, he started performing live concerts again. He also released a new album called "Circles".

Pavel Bobek was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on September 16, 1937. After finishing high school, he decided to study architecture. He learned alongside other talented people like Jan Kaplický and Eva Jiřičná.

Pavel Bobek passed away on November 20, 2013, in Prague, Czech Republic. He was 76 years old.
