Pawnee, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Pawnee is a small, quiet place in Harrison County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

Where is Pawnee Located?

Pawnee is found where two roads meet: Missouri Route 46 and county route YY. It's also located north of where Wolf Creek joins the West Fork of Big Creek. If you travel about 5.5 miles west along Route 46, you'll find the community of Hatfield. About five miles to the southeast is Eagleville.

The Story Behind the Name

Pawnee had a post office that opened in 1886. It served the community for many years before closing in 1908. The name "Pawnee" most likely comes from the Pawnee Indians. This suggests a connection to the rich history of Native American tribes in the region.
