Lois Patricia Golding, known as Peaches Golding, was born in 1953. She is an American-British business leader and administrator. She holds the important role of Lord Lieutenant of Bristol, representing the King in the city and county of Bristol. In 2010, she became the High Sheriff of Bristol. She was the first Black woman and the second Black person ever to hold this position. In June 2020, she was also made an Honorary Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Early Life and Schooling
Peaches Golding was born Lois Patricia Hauser on December 13, 1953. Her birthplace was Spartanburg, in the United States. She is one of two daughters of Charlie Brady Hauser and Lois Elizabeth Brown. Her father was a teacher. He won a legal case in 1947 after being arrested for not moving to the back of a bus. This happened eight years before Rosa Parks' famous protest. Her father also served in the US Army during World War II. Later, he was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly.
Golding went to Richard J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. In 1970, she won second place in a talent show. She played Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 on the piano. In 1971, she attended the Governor's School of North Carolina. She then studied biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She finished her studies there in 1976.
Her Career Journey
After graduating, Peaches Golding worked as a teacher. She taught at the University of Ibadan and Loyola College in Ibadan, Nigeria. In 1983, she moved to Bristol, England, with her husband. There, she started her own business. It focused on marketing and communications. Her clients included government departments and other organizations.
She also worked for Business in the Community for 17 years. This organization helps businesses be more responsible. She held several roles there, including deputy director and regional director.

The first Black person to hold the role was Nathaniel Wells in 1818. In 2017, she became the first Black female Lord Lieutenant of Bristol. This is the King's personal representative in the area.
Awards and Recognition
Peaches Golding has received several honors for her work:
- In 2009, she was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This award was for her services to minority ethnic people in the South-West of England.
- The University of the West of England gave her an honorary degree. This means she was recognized for her achievements with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- In 2020, she was made an Honorary Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve. She also received the Commander of the Order of St John (CStJ) award.
Personal Life
Peaches Golding lives in Bristol. She was married to Bob Golding. He was a zoologist and used to be the director of the Zoological Garden at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Bob Golding passed away in January 2022.
