Pedro Vuskovic Bravo (born February 25, 1924, died May 10, 1993) was an important economist from Chile. He was also a political figure and a government minister. He is best known for creating an economic plan used by President Salvador Allende. This plan was called the Vuskovic plan.

Who Was Pedro Vuskovic?
Pedro Vuskovic was born in a city called Antofagasta, Chile. He studied business at the Universidad de Chile. Later, he became a professor there, teaching about statistics. At the same time, he worked for a group called CEPAL. This group is part of the United Nations. It helps countries in Latin America and the Caribbean with their economic development.
Early Career and Helping Countries
Pedro Vuskovic started working for CEPAL in 1950. He worked there for almost 20 years. He became the Director of the Development Division. In this role, he helped shape how CEPAL thought about economic growth. He also taught classes at different universities in Chile. He even became the Director of the Institute of Economics at the University of Chile.
Working with President Allende
Pedro Vuskovic helped create the economic ideas for the Popular Unity (UP) political group. On November 3, 1970, he became the Minister of Economic Affairs for President Salvador Allende. He was a very important person in the government's economic plans.
The Vuskovic Plan
Vuskovic wanted to share wealth more evenly among people. His plan aimed to do this by raising salaries and increasing government spending. He believed that if people had more money, they would buy more things. This would help the economy grow.
He stayed as a minister until June 17, 1972. Political pressure led President Allende to change his economic plans. Vuskovic then took on a new role. He became the Executive Vice President of the Production Development Corporation (CORFO). He worked there until September 1973.
Life After the Government
After the Chilean Coup of 1973, Pedro Vuskovic had to leave Chile. He went to Mexico. There, he became a professor. He worked at the Economic Research and Teaching Centre (CIDE). He also directed the Institute of Economic Studies of Latin America. Later, he taught at the National University of Mexico (UNAM). He led a program about poverty and development in Latin America.
After Chile became a democracy again in 1990, he returned for a short time. But he moved back to Mexico. He lived his last years there and passed away in 1993.
