Life and Career of Pedro Vázquez Colmenares

Pedro Vázquez Colmenares was born in 1934 in a city called Tuxtepec in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. He studied law and earned his degree in 1958 from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 1963, he joined a major political group in Mexico called the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

Early Government Roles

Before becoming governor, Pedro Vázquez Colmenares worked in several different government jobs. From 1959 to 1964, he was a prosecutor, which means he worked on legal cases for the government. He also worked for the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare, a government department that helps with jobs and social programs.

Later, from 1971 to 1973, he was a senior officer for the Secretariat of the President. This meant he worked closely with the President of Mexico. He then became the Director General of Airports and Auxiliary Services for Mexico from 1973 to 1975, helping to manage the country's airports.

Leading Aeroméxico and Becoming Governor

From 1976 to 1980, Pedro Vázquez Colmenares was the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Aeroméxico, which is a big airline company in Mexico. After this, he became the Governor of Oaxaca.

He served as governor from 1980 until 1985. In 1985, he left his job as governor a little early because the Mexican President, Miguel de la Madrid, asked him to take on another very important role.

National Security and Diplomacy

President Miguel de la Madrid appointed Pedro Vázquez Colmenares as the director general of the Center for Research and National Security (CISEN). This was Mexico's main intelligence agency, which works to protect the country's security. He held this position from 1985 to 1988.

After his work at CISEN, Pedro Vázquez Colmenares became the Mexican Ambassador to Guatemala. An ambassador is a country's official representative in another country, helping to build good relationships between them. He served as ambassador from 1989 to 1995.

Later Life and Passing

Pedro Vázquez Colmenares passed away at his home in Acapulco, Mexico, on September 24, 2012. He was 78 years old. His funeral was held in Mexico City. He was survived by his wife, Ana María Guzmán de Vásquez, and their three children: Bernardo, Pedro, and Ana.
