Peg Phillips (born Margaret Linton) was an American actress. She was born on September 20, 1918, and passed away on November 7, 2002. Peg was most famous for her role as Ruth-Anne Miller. She played this character on the popular TV show Northern Exposure.

Peg Phillips's Early Life
Peg Phillips was born Margaret Linton in Everett, Washington. Her parents were Charles and Myrtle Linton. From a very young age, she dreamed of becoming an actress. She enjoyed performing in plays at dinner theaters as a hobby.
Peg was married to Daniel Greene. He was a Navy man stationed in Hawaii when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened. Later, in the 1950s, she married Chester Phillips. During this time, she faced a serious illness.
In the 1960s, Peg lived in Santa Cruz, California. She lived with her children Kathy, Virginia, and Arthur. Her oldest daughter, Elisabeth, had already moved out. Peg worked as an accountant at Sweet Service. She also stayed involved with local theater groups. Her favorite play was Bell, Book and Candle.
After she retired from accounting, Peg moved back to Washington. She wanted to study drama at the University of Washington. However, she started getting so many acting jobs that she never finished her degree!
Acting Career Highlights
Peg Phillips began acting professionally when she was in her late 60s. Her first TV movie role was in Chase in 1985.
In 1990, she got the part of Ruth-Anne Miller on Northern Exposure. Her character was only supposed to appear sometimes. But people loved her, so she became a regular on the show. In 1993, she was nominated for a big award. It was the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
After the show's fifth season ended in 1995, Peg had heart surgery. During the surgery, she had a very serious heart problem. Luckily, she was already in the operating room. This likely saved her life.
After Northern Exposure, Peg Phillips appeared in several other TV shows. She had many guest roles, especially on 7th Heaven. She also played the godmother of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's characters. This was in the TV movie How the West Was Fun. Her last acting job was a guest role on ER in 2000. In 1998, she also started her own theater group. It was called the Woodinville Repertory Theatre.
Later Years and Passing
Peg Phillips passed away in Seattle in 2002. She was 84 years old. She died from a lung disease.
