Early Life and Music Career
Peggy Stoutmeyer was born on June 25, 1948, in Opp, Alabama. She grew up in Pensacola, Florida. When she was a teenager, Peggy toured with famous singer Ben E. King.
She had three songs that became very popular, reaching the Top 40 charts. These songs were "Lover's Holiday" (1968), "Pickin' Wild Mountain Berries" (1968), and "Soulshake" (1969). She sang these songs as a duet with Jo Jo Benson. All these hits were released by SSS International Records. After the late 1960s, she took a break from the music industry. She worked as a lounge singer in Pensacola, Florida, before moving to California. There, she married Robert L. Adams Sr.
Solo Music Journey
Later, singer and producer Jimmy Lewis convinced Peggy to record music again. With his help, she released her first solo album, Help Yourself, on October 22, 1996.
In 1997, she released another album called Contagious. Her third album, Undisputed Queen, came out in 1999. She continued making music in 2000 with Live in Alabama & More. This album featured the song "When I'm With You" and the dance track "Sweaty Men." Both of these songs became popular. Her next album was Hot and Sassy.
Later Years and Legacy
Peggy Scott-Adams released her fifth album, Busting Loose, in 2003. In 2006, she released her first gospel album, God Can, And He Will. Her second gospel album, Back To The Roots, was released in 2009. She released it on her own music label, Nora Records.
Peggy Scott-Adams passed away on March 27, 2023, at the age of 74. She left behind a legacy of soul, blues, and R&B music.
