Ceuta and Península de Almina

The Península de Almina is a special piece of land that reaches out into the sea. It makes up a large part of the eastern side of Ceuta. Ceuta is a Spanish city located on the northern coast of Africa. This peninsula is mostly known for the tall peak of Monte Hacho.

The Península de Almina is connected to the rest of Ceuta by a very narrow strip of land. This narrow strip is called an isthmus. It is barely 100 meters (about 328 feet) wide. The peninsula also has Ceuta's easternmost point, which is called Punta Almina.

The Península de Almina is dominated by the mountain called Monte Hacho. This mountain is a very important landmark in Ceuta. It stands tall and can be seen from many places. Monte Hacho is sometimes called one of the "Pillars of Hercules." The other pillar is the Rock of Gibraltar, which is across the Strait of Gibraltar.

Isla de Santa Catalina

Just off the northern coast of the Península de Almina, there is a small island. This island is called the Isla de Santa Catalina. It is a tiny island located close to the peninsula.
