The Penn Plaza East complex is a group of office buildings. They are located in Newark, near Penn Station. These buildings stand along Raymond Boulevard, right next to the Passaic River.

The buildings were constructed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. During this time, many modern-looking skyscrapers were built near the train station. While other buildings were built closer to Downtown Newark, Penn Plaza East is on the east side of the station. This area is known as Ironbound.

Who Works Here?

As of 2010, several important companies have their main offices in these buildings.

• New Jersey Transit: This is the main public transportation agency for New Jersey.
• JOC Group: This company focuses on business information and media.
• Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey: This is a large health insurance company. They actually own one of the buildings in the complex.

Building Ownership

The Penn Plaza East complex was first built and owned by Hartz Mountain Industries. Later, one of the buildings was bought by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

Building Features

The two main office towers sit on top of a four-story structure. This lower part includes a parking garage and a lobby that connects the two buildings.

There is also another parking area nearby. This area is located under the Dock Bridge. Plans are in place to develop this space. It will become part of the Newark Riverfront Park. This park will include a walking path along the river.
