The Story of Pentz

Pentz was founded in 1850. This was a busy time in California, right after the famous Gold Rush began. Many new towns and communities started to appear as people moved to the state.

Who Founded Pentz?

The community was founded by a person named Manoah Pence. He was an important figure in the early days of Pentz.

The First Post Office

Manoah Pence also became the very first postmaster for Pentz. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office. They make sure mail gets sorted and delivered. The post office in Pentz opened in 1864. This was a big deal for the community. It meant people could send and receive letters and packages more easily. This helped the community grow and connect with other places.

When the Post Office Closed

The post office in Pentz served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1912. Even though the post office is gone, Pentz remains a part of Butte County's history.
