Pepsi Tate (born Huw Justin Smith, 10 March 1965 – 18 September 2007) was a talented musician from Wales. He was best known as the bass guitarist for the band Tigertailz. This band became quite popular in the early 1990s, even reaching the Top 40 on the music charts in the United Kingdom.
Early Life and Music
Pepsi Tate was born Huw Justin Smith. His father was Ray Smith, a well-known actor. Pepsi grew up in a small village called Dinas Powys, which is close to the city of Cardiff in Wales.
He loved music and became a skilled bass guitarist. He joined the band Tigertailz, which played a type of music called glam metal. This style of music often featured catchy songs and flashy outfits.
Beyond the Band
After his time with Tigertailz, Pepsi Tate explored new interests. He started a career in television. He worked as a producer, which means he helped create TV shows. He also worked as a director, guiding how shows were filmed.
One of his important jobs was for BBC Wales. He directed a weekly TV show about politics called Dragon's Eye. This shows he had many different talents, not just in music.
Last Recordings and Legacy
Pepsi Tate's final music recordings were featured on the album Thrill Pistol. This album was released on 27 August 2007. It was a special album, dedicated to Pepsi and his family.
Sadly, Pepsi Tate passed away on 18 September 2007, when he was 42 years old. He had been battling a serious illness. He died at a special care center in Penarth. Just a few weeks before, he had married his longtime partner, Shân Cothi, who is a famous Welsh opera singer.
