Peredurus facts for kids
Peredurus was a legendary king of the ancient Britons. He appears in a very old book called Historia Regum Britanniae (which means History of the Kings of Britain). This book was written by Geoffrey of Monmouth and tells stories that are like history but are actually legends, not real events.
Peredurus was the youngest son of King Morvidus. He had four older brothers: Gorbonianus, Archgallo, Elidurus, and Ingenius.
How Peredurus Became King
After his brother Elidurus became king again, Peredurus and his brother Ingenius decided to take action. They attacked Elidurus and managed to capture him. They locked him up in a tall, guarded tower in a city called Trinovantum.
Instead of fighting each other for who would rule, Peredurus and Ingenius decided to share the kingdom. Ingenius ruled the area known as Cornwall, and Peredurus ruled Albany, which is a northern part of Britain.
Peredurus's Rule
Peredurus ruled his part of the island for seven years. Then, his brother Ingenius passed away. After Ingenius's death, Peredurus became the ruler of the entire kingdom.
People thought Peredurus was a fair and good king. They believed he was even better than his brothers who had ruled before him. Most people forgot about Elidurus, who was still locked away in the tower. Peredurus ruled until he died.
After Peredurus's death, Elidurus, who had been imprisoned, became king once more. Later, Peredurus's son, Runo, also became a king of Britain.
