The Perené River is an important river in Peru, a country in South America. It flows down the eastern side of the Andes Mountains. Its name in Spanish is Río Perené.
The Perené River's Journey
The Perené River starts when two other rivers, the Chanchamayo and the Paucartambo River, meet. This meeting point is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) away from the town of Perené. The river begins at an elevation of about 650 meters (2,130 feet) above sea level.
From its start, the Perené River flows mostly towards the southeast. It travels for about 165 kilometers (103 miles).
The Perené River eventually joins another river called the Ene River. This happens about 10 kilometers (6 miles) past the community of Puerto Ocopa. At this point, the river is about 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level. After joining the Ene River, the Perené River changes its name and becomes known as the Tambo River.
