Periana is a charming town and a local government area (called a municipality) in southern Spain. It is located in the province of Málaga, which is part of the sunny region of Andalusia. Periana is also part of a special area known as La Axarquía. The town is about 23 kilometers from Vélez and 48 kilometers from the big city of Málaga, close to the Sierra de Alhama mountains. Around 3,500 people live in Periana. The people from Periana are called Perianenses, and they have a fun nickname: Los Manga Anchas, which means "The Wide-sleeved Ones"!

After this event, the people of Periana worked hard to rebuild their homes and their town. This shows the strong spirit of the community.
