Playing Career Highlights
Periko Alonso was born in Tolosa, a town in Gipuzkoa, Spain. He played professionally for three main clubs: Real Sociedad, Barcelona, and Sabadell.
Success with Real Sociedad
With Real Sociedad, Periko was a very important player. He helped his team win the La Liga title two times in a row. This happened in the 1980–81 and 1981–82 seasons. During these winning seasons, he played in about 32 games each year and scored around five goals.
While playing for Real Sociedad, he also earned most of his caps for the Spanish national team. A "cap" means playing a game for your country. His first game for Spain was on 24 September 1980. It was a friendly match against Hungary in Budapest. The game ended in a 2–2 tie.
Time at Barcelona and Sabadell
In the 1982–83 season, Periko Alonso joined Barcelona. He had stopped playing for the national team after the World Cup in his home country didn't go as planned. At Barcelona, he didn't play as much as he did at Real Sociedad. However, he still won the league title with Barcelona in his final year there. He only played two games that season.
He retired from playing football in 1988. His last club was Sabadell, a team near Barcelona. He helped Sabadell get promoted from the Segunda División (Spain's second division league) in his first season with them. In his second season, he scored 12 goals. This was the most goals he scored in a single season in his career. Even though Sabadell was a smaller team, they managed to stay in the top league that year.
