A Look at Perry's History
Perry has some interesting stories from the past. It was the birthplace of Mary Baird Bryan. She was the wife of William Jennings Bryan, a very famous American politician.
One of Bryan's most well-known speeches, called the 'Cross of Gold' speech, was first given in Perry. He spoke it at a church social at the Perry Presbyterian Church. The words of his speech were even printed in the local newspaper back then.
The village itself is named after a brave naval officer. He was Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. He was a hero of the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
