Persoonia biglandulosa is a cool flowering plant that grows only in the south-west of Western Australia. It's a type of shrub, which is a woody plant smaller than a tree. This plant can grow upright, spread out, or even stay low to the ground. It has smooth bark and long, thin leaves. Its bright yellow flowers grow in groups, making it look very pretty!

What Does It Look Like?

Persoonia biglandulosa is a shrub that usually grows to be about 0.15 to 1.5 meters tall. That's like being anywhere from your knee height to a bit taller than an adult! It has smooth, patchy grey bark.

Leaves and Flowers

The leaves of this plant are shaped like thin tubes, but they have a small groove, or line, along their bottom side. They are usually about 5 to 10 centimeters long and just over 1 millimeter wide. Imagine a very long, thin pencil!

The bright yellow flowers grow in groups of 8 to 25. You'll find them at the ends of the branches. Each flower sits on a small, hairy stalk called a pedicel, which is about 6 to 10 millimeters long. The flower petals, called tepals, are also bright yellow and about 10 to 13 millimeters long. Inside, the white parts that hold the pollen are called anthers.

When It Blooms

This plant usually blooms, or flowers, from October to December. After the flowers are gone, the plant grows a smooth, oval-shaped fruit. This fruit is called a drupe and is about 11 to 14 millimeters long. It's like a small plum or cherry, and it holds a single seed inside.

How It Was Named

Discovering the Plant

Persoonia biglandulosa was officially named in 1994 by a scientist named Peter Henry Weston. He first found and collected samples of this plant in 1980, near the Murchison River. He then wrote about it in a science journal called Telopea.

Where It Lives

This special plant, a type of geebung, grows in low, open areas called heathlands. These heathlands are found on sandy plains. You can find Persoonia biglandulosa within about 60 kilometers of the Murchison River in the south-west part of Western Australia.

Is It Safe?

The good news is that the Western Australian Government's Department of Parks and Wildlife says that Persoonia biglandulosa is "not threatened." This means there are enough of these plants, and they are not in danger of disappearing.
