Pesoz (also known as Pezós in Eonavian) is a small town in Asturias, Spain. It is a municipality, which is like a local government area. Pesoz is also the only parish (a type of local division) within this municipality.
It is one of the places in Asturias with the fewest people living there. Pesoz shares its borders with other towns. To the north is Illano, to the south is Grandas de Salime, to the east is Allande, and to the west is San Martín de Oscos.
Geography of Pesoz
Pesoz is a beautiful area with two important rivers. The Navia River and the Agüeira River flow through it. The Agüeira River joins the Navia River near the Doiras reservoir. The Navia River also forms part of the border between Pesoz and the nearby municipality of Illano.
The main town of Pesoz is located where the Agüeira and Aio rivers meet. Many people live close to the historic Palacio de Ron.
History of Pesoz
People have lived in Pesoz for a very long time. It is known that people were here during the neolithic period, which was the New Stone Age. This means humans were living and farming in this area thousands of years ago.
Later, during the time of the Roman Empire, there were mines in Pesoz. The Romans were known for their mining skills, and they likely extracted valuable resources from the ground here.
In the 20th century, a big change happened in Pesoz. The Salime reservoir was built nearby. This project brought many jobs and helped the local population grow. However, once the reservoir was finished, many people left Pesoz. This caused some difficulties for the town, both in its economy and for the people living there.
